FAQs

Can you describe a typical day at Wild Beginnings Summer Camp?

Each day follows a gentle, unhurried rhythm rooted in nature connection and creative play. Camp begins at 9:00am with arrival and a Morning Circle in the meadow, followed by free forest exploration in Maple Alley. We then walk down to the bottom of the property for snack time outside the yurt, before heading back into the forest for more play. We gather together for a story or picture book before lunch, then eat together as a community. The afternoon brings hands-on crafting and more outdoor play, followed by Sit Spot in Maple Alley — a quiet moment of individual nature observation. We close the day back in the meadow with a closing circle and an afternoon snack (provided). Pickup is at 2:00pm.

Each week has its own theme woven through every day. During a typical week, children might work together on a community art mural, try finger knitting, press natural objects into clay, play cooperative games, and listen to a nature story. Every day is a little different, and every week tells its own story.

What ages can attend Summer Camp?

Children must be at least 3 years old and fully potty trained to attend Summer Camp. We accept children up to age 12. Summer Camp is entirely outdoors without accessible indoor facilities, so full potty autonomy is essential. If your child is close but not quite there, we're happy to have a conversation about timing. We do have a porta-potty down by the yurt.

How does the mixed-age setting work?

Mixed-age groups are a core part of the Wild Beginnings experience. Younger children learn by observing and playing alongside older peers, while older children grow in confidence and responsibility as natural mentors. It creates a warm, family-like dynamic that supports social development organically.

Is Summer Camp fully outdoors?

Yes — Summer Camp is entirely outdoors. We do not use the yurt or any indoor space during camp. Children spend the full day exploring our meadow, trails, and open spaces. We meet in all weather, so please dress your child accordingly.

What should my child wear to camp? Do they need any special gear?

Comfortable, play-ready clothes are all you need — think layers, as early summer mornings can be cool. Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots, a sun hat, and sunscreen applied before arrival are all helpful. We'll send a full packing list in your confirmation email.

Do you provide snacks and/or lunch? What if my child has a food allergy?

Please send your child with a full water bottle and a nut-free snack and lunch. We provide a second snack at pick up. If your child has any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know. We are a nut-free program; for severe allergies, please speak with us directly so we can plan accordingly.

What if my child is sick or cannot attend camp that day?

Please send us a quick email or text to let us know. Tuition is not refunded or prorated for illness or individual absences, but we always appreciate the heads-up.

What if we want to add or change weeks? What if the camp is full for the weeks we want?

If you'd like to add or change weeks after enrolling, just reach out directly and we'll do our best to accommodate based on availability. Some weeks fill faster than others. If a week is full, we maintain a waitlist — please still reach out, as spots do open up. We'll contact you as soon as one becomes available.

Are refunds available if we need to cancel?

The $100 deposit fee is non-refundable. If you need to cancel your enrollment, please reach out to us as soon as possible and we'll discuss your situation and do our best to work with you.

Is there a discount for multiple weeks or siblings? Do you offer scholarships?

Yes, we offer a 5% sibling discount on tuition for families enrolling more than one child per week. We do not offer multi-week discounts or scholarships at this time.
